Your position on the bike joins the Titan Desert

The Škoda Titan Desert Almería has a car partner, a nutrition partner, an equipment partner and a destination partner. It now also has, for the first time in its history, an official bike fitting partner. That is Bibobici.

It is not a geographical accident, even if it looks like one. The race runs through the Tabernas desert, the Sierra de los Filabres and the Sierra Cabrera, and starts and finishes in Mojácar. The studio is in Vera, fifteen minutes from the race base. Those roads and those trails are where we ride on an ordinary Tuesday.

What the partnership brings is not a discount or a stand. It is an idea we have argued for from the beginning, and a race this size puts it where it belongs: over four days, your position is not a comfort detail. It is race equipment.

Over four days, what is a niggle on day one is a withdrawal on day three.

Why it matters

What a Titan asks of your position

A three-hour ride forgives almost everything. Your body compensates, you shift around without noticing and you get home. Four days in a row forgive nothing: accumulated fatigue strips those compensations away one by one, and what is left is the position itself.

Day 1

What holds up on the first day

On fresh legs almost any reasonable position works. You hold your torso up, your hands absorb the vibration, the saddle does not bother you. Nothing shows here.

Which is why a one-day event does not tell you whether your position is right. It tells you whether it is right enough for one day.

Day 3

What surfaces on the third day

The torso gives and the load drops onto your hands and neck. The pelvis starts rocking on the saddle and the chafing begins. Your knees, thousands of metres in, stop tolerating an angle that was only «nearly» right.

None of this is lack of fitness. It is the position collecting on the margin you gave it.

Four things the Titan changes about your everyday bike

The hydration pack

Two or three kilos on your back shift weight onto your hands and make your neck work harder. A position that is comfortable without a pack may not be with one, and it is the commonest cause of a sore neck on day two.

Time out of the saddle

With constant climbing you stand up hundreds of times. Those seated-to-standing transitions depend on saddle height and setback far more than people expect.

Vibration from the terrain

Broken track and dry riverbed for hours. Lever angle and bar rotation stop being a detail and start deciding whether you finish with numb hands.

October heat in Almería

You sweat more, the shorts slide and the saddle interface changes. What was tolerable pressure on day one is a wound by day three.

Every rider is racing a different Titan

Because behind every number there is a story of its own.

Some are chasing a result.

Some are keeping a promise.

Some want to prove something to themselves.

Some just want to know they can reach the finish.

Every rider turns up with a different reason. What they share is one thing: they want four days they will remember for the rest of their lives.

A bike fit will not guarantee you finish a Titan Desert. What it can do is let you ride it with more comfort, more confidence and, above all, more enjoyment.

If you are racing it

When to look at your position

The rule is simple: six to eight weeks beforehand, minimum. A new position needs kilometres to settle. You ride it, you see what stays and what needs tweaking, and you get to the start line already adapted. Touching the bike the week before swaps a known problem for an unknown one, and over four days that gets expensive.

And the other half of the advice, which we give just as often: if your position already works and you have gone months without a niggle, leave it alone. We will tell you so even if the Titan is on your calendar.

Questions

About the partnership

Does Bibobici organise the Titan Desert?

No. The race is organised by RPM Sports. Bibobici is the official bike fitting partner of the Škoda Titan Desert Almería — the first time the race has had a bike fitting brand as an official partner.

What does «official bike fitting partner» actually mean?

That your position on the bike becomes a recognised category within the race, with a brand behind it, the same way there is one for cars, nutrition and equipment. No previous edition of the Titan Desert Almería has had one.

When and where is the 2026 edition?

1–4 October 2026, based in Mojácar for the first time. Four stages, over 300 kilometres and around 6,600 metres of climbing, according to the route published by the organisers. The 2027 dates will be announced later.

Is Bibobici near the start?

Fifteen minutes away. The studio is in Vera, on Calle La Noria, and the race is based in Mojácar. It is probably the closest bike fitting studio to the start line of the whole race.

How far ahead should I get a fit before the Titan?

Six to eight weeks at the very least. A new position needs kilometres to settle: you have to ride it on long days, adjust whatever needs adjusting and arrive at the race already adapted to it. Changing your position the week before is the worst possible idea.

I already have a road fit. Will it do for the Titan?

It is a starting point, but it is not the same thing. Four days of mountain riding with constant climbing, a hydration pack and technical sections ask different things of your hands, neck and saddle than a road ride does. If you are racing on a mountain bike, the mountain bike is what needs looking at.

The 2026 route

Four stages from 1 to 4 October 2026, based in Mojácar for the first time and with three brand-new stages. Over 300 kilometres and around 6,600 metres of climbing, with less sand and more mountain than previous editions. This is the route published by the organisers:

Stage 2Mojácar – Tabernas Circuit74 km1,650 m
Stage 3Tabernas Circuit, over the Velefique pass100 km2,286 m
Stage 4Tabernas Circuit – Mojácar60 km670 m

Stage three climbs the Velefique pass, the long Sierra de los Filabres climb that comes up in every conversation between riders around here. The race also runs two-day formats and an e-bike category. Entries and the official route are on the race website.
